Preparation and caution prove key to safe driving during a Michigan winter. Follow these winter driving tips to arrive safely at your destination.
- Schedule a service visit. Get all fluids, including antifreeze and washer fluid, checked and replace worn wiper blades. Have your tires inspected, as well, to ensure they can handle icy roads.
- Put together an emergency kit. Anytime you leave the house, you should have on you or in the car clothes that will keep you warm in the case of a breakdown. Also have on hand a flashlight with extra batteries, flares, first-aid supplies and items that could help you out if your car gets stuck in the snow, such as a shovel and sand. Always have a car adapter for your cell phone, and keep it plugged in while you drive to have the most battery life in case of an emergency.
